GTA Online developer Rockstar is getting ready to release the biggest Grand Theft Auto update ever, as the Cayo Perico Heist goes live on PS4, Xbox One and PC.The Cayo Perico Heist is shaping up to be one of the biggest and best updates yet in GTA Online. To celebrate, Express Online is counting down to the event with a guide to what you can expect from the update, when it will be released, and all-new gameplay footage.
Before we get into the nitty gritty of the new GTA Online update, let’s get the basics out of the way.The Cayo Perico Heist DLC has a December 15 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC. There’s no official launch time, but previous GTA Online updates have gone live around 10am GMT for UK fans.The new update will be accompanied by a lengthy list of patch notes, which we’ll add to this article the moment they’re revealed in full by Rockstar.
One thing we do know without the aid of patch notes is that the free DLC update will introduce a brand new area for players to explore.Cayo Perico is described as an exotic island location that’s home to the world’s most notorious drug dealer.The island is said to be littered with private security guards, each armed to the teeth with explosive weaponry.
Another big part of the update is the addition of a new nightclub called The Music Locker.Located beneath the Diamond Casino and Resort, The Music Locker will be home to some high-profile DJs, beginning with Detroit’s Moodymann.

Speaking of new music, Rockstar is adding a variety of new radio stations to the game, complete with over 100 new songs.The new radio stations include Still Slipping Los Santos with Joy Orbison, as well as KULT FM with Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. Needless to say, the Cayo Perico Heist update also includes new vehicles, weapons and much more.

How to Download GTA 5 Online Cayo Perico Heist
If the update doesn’t begin downloading automatically, then players can manually check for updates on the PS4 by following these steps:
- Hover over GTA V
- Press the Options button
- Select “Check for Updates”
GTA Online fans have been waiting for this update ever since Rockstar first unveiled their plans earlier this year. While the Los Santos Summer Special was a decent enough update, it was an appetizer to the main course that is the Cayo Perico Heist update.
Players cannot wait to finally purchase their Submarine HQ and head to the Island and rob El Rubio. Fans are excited to see what GTA Online’s newest cast member, El Rubio has to offer and whether he’ll live up to the hype.

Among many other things, the Cayo Perico Heist DLC adds the titular Heist, which is set in an entirely new location, to the game. The objective is to steal from the world’s most notorious drug lord’s private compound on a remote island.
The update is expected to go live around the 10 AM BST/ 2:30 PM IST mark, which is the usual time for updates of this scale and size. Both the Los Santos Summer Special and last December’s Diamond Casino Heist went live around the same time.
Players have been made aware of the most significant additions to the GTA Online experience, some of which are:
